Texas law (Occupations Code Chapter 1702) requires any company that installs, services, monitors, or sells electronic security systems to hold a license from the Texas DPS Private Security Bureau. This applies to burglar alarms, surveillance cameras, access control, and intercom systems.
The license requires proof of insurance, a criminal background check, continuing education, and a surety bond. Unlicensed security work is a Class A misdemeanor in Texas.
The Texas DPS issues security licenses in several classes. Class B covers electronic access control, surveillance, intercom, and detection systems — essentially all the electronic security work we do. It requires more stringent qualification than a Class A (alarm only) or Class C (private investigator) license.
Some companies only hold a Class A license, which technically doesn't cover camera or access control installations. Ours covers everything we offer.
The Texas DPS maintains a public database at txdps.state.tx.us. You can search by our license number #B-12088 or by company name. The database shows our current status, classification, issue date, expiration, and any disciplinary history (there is none).
We encourage every commercial client to verify our license before signing a contract. We have nothing to hide.
Yes — we send certificates of insurance directly from our carrier for any commercial project. Just ask your account manager and we'll have it issued within one business day. The COI shows all our policies, limits, and named insured.
Many commercial clients require us to add them as an additional insured on our general liability policy. We're happy to do that at no extra cost.
Yes. Texas requires individual technicians who install security systems to hold a Non-Commissioned Security Officer or Alarm Level II license under their employer's DPS registration. Every field technician at SecureVista Tech holds the appropriate individual license.
All technicians also undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check before hire, and again at every license renewal.
You're on your own. An unlicensed contractor has no bond to claim against, no DPS oversight, and no insurance requirement. If they damage your property or install a system incorrectly, your only recourse is civil court — which is expensive and slow.
Additionally, your property insurance may refuse to cover incidents involving unlicensed contractor work, and your system may not qualify for certain insurance discounts that require licensed installation.
Yes. Our Class B license covers every service we provide: security camera systems, video intercoms, electronic access control, alarm systems, and related low-voltage installation.
Some companies hold narrower licenses (like alarm-only) and technically aren't authorized for camera or access control work. If you're comparing quotes, ask every contractor for their exact license classification.
